Scrotal Rash

A scrotal rash is defined as a change in the skin of the testicles that affects its appearance, texture and/or color. There are several reasons that a rash is present on the scrotum and in order to know the proper way to treat it, the cause must be uncovered. This can be challenging as scrotal rash can be caused by any number of things. Some of the main causes include candidiasis, heat rash, public lice, dermatitis, eczema, scabies and several types of sexually transmitted diseases. Scrotal rash can also be the result of irritation caused by a particular type of clothing fabric or an allergic reaction to laundry detergent or soap/body wash.

To treat any rash that is caused by a sexually transmitted disease, a doctor must be consulted as the rash is the symptom, not the cause. If the rash is caused by eczema or psoriasis, the key is learning how to treat flare-ups and take preventative measures. If public lice are the source of the problem, certain soaps and shampoos, in addition to other prescribed medications, will cure the rash. And finally, if the scrotal rash is due to an allergic reaction, simply stop using what has caused the rash and use anti itch cream/lotion/ointment to relieve any itching that may be present. A medical professional will know the proper way to treat the cause and the symptom.
